How to Deal With Disruptive Community Members

Higher Logic

We love our communities and members. For the most part, everyone participating is collegial, helpful and respectful—which is why members keep coming back, posting and collaborating with each other. Sometimes, there’s that one member (or maybe several) who provoke in conversations. Maybe the provocation is outright and obvious. Other times, it is subtler and nuanced, but gives you a bad feeling.

ASAE Annual Exhibitors Miss Another Opportunity

Reid All About it

Yesterday, one of my friends started a conversation on Facebook about all the post-show emails sent by ASAE Annual exhibitors. We’re not receiving nearly the deluge of emails that go out before the show, but, once again, many of these emails are missing the mark. Segment your list. You scanned badges. You know the names of the attendees who visited your booth during the show.

Is Your Community Changing with the Times?

Higher Logic

Today’s “new normal” involves continuous change, which is something the Millennial generation has simply come to expect. But those of us who are older and running things inside associations (including our online communities) have always tried to build things that last. We like consistency. We like things to stay the same. This is a challenge. We need our online communities to morph and shift with the changing landscape.

Cancer Does What It Wants

Jamie Notter

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with larynx cancer earlier this year. I had a small growth on my vocal chords that turned out to have some cancer in it. They removed the growth (while preserving my vocal chords, thank you very much) and this June I went through radiation treatment to make sure there was no cancer left in the system. I'm told that it's all gone now, and from here on out they'll just monitor me.

That’s according to a new benchmarking study on association marketing by Demand Metric and HighRoad Solution. “ The State of Association Marketing ,” unveiled this week during ASAE’s annual conference in Detroit, summarizes the marketing efforts of 373 survey respondents

Three Reasons Trade Associations Should Have Online Communities

We believe that all types of organizations can benefit from having an online community. There is so much power in connecting people, spreading ideas and empowering community members. However, depending on who is part of your trade association, members may be hesitant to use an online community at first — their competitors may be part of the same community, reading and contributing to the same conversations.

You've Got to Meet the Decision-Maker

Eric Lanke

I've been on a number of member visits lately. What are member visits? That's when I and/or a member of my association staff get out of our office and visit one of our association members in their place of business. Invariably, these are well worth the time and expense it takes to organize and conduct them. They give us on-the-ground information about the world of our members and it facilitates greater loyalty between the member and the association.

Recognition Powers High-Performance — If You Do it Right

Speaker: Radhika Samant and Todd Wuestenberg

Employee recognition has often been deemed a "feel-good" initiative, tied closely to rewards. While we understand its importance, we tend to associate recognition with intangible outcomes like engagement and sentiment, rather than direct impacts on retention and high performance. In today’s workplace, the true ROI of recognition lies in its ability to regenerate tangible, business-driven results.

Meanwhile, technical working group projects may suffer from poor meeting attendance, role confusion, or chronic delays in decision making.
