When I first decided to have an at-home retreat week, I had in mind the relaxed yet energizing experience of my stays at Red Mountain Spa. But how would I replicate that experience without morning hikes in southern Utah’s glorious red rock landscape, frequent massages, fitness and wellness classes and a dining room serving delicious and healthy food?
I read an article recently published by NPR about the future of associations. The article was titled, “Time for Associations to trade in their past?” You can read the article by clicking here. Don’t have the time to read it? I’ll summarize it for you: There are thousands of associations in the US. Many would seem to be associations for outdated industries or purposes.

I know there’s nothing like being there, but when you can’t be there, at least there’s Twitter. For three days, April 29-May 1, the American Society of Journalists & Authors 2011 Writers Conference went on without me. That’s happened a few times these past months – excellent conferences I’ve sadly missed. Where are my sponsors? Seriously, I’m worth it.
I think great leaders – corporate CEOs, Heads of State, Professional Coaches, Parents have at their very core great values. Any successes these leaders achieve start with the values in which they believe and encourage others to believe in as well. Think about parenting. The values parents instill in their children through example, lecture and discipline are often the biggest influence in what kind of adults those children become.

Logins are basically made up of two pieces of information: your username and your password.
I’ve been busy writing for other people and haven’t blogged much for myself, except for my Grabbing the Gusto blog, I’ve posted a few new recipes there. Here is a sample of some of my recent writing – blog posts for Avectra and SmartBlog Insights. The Latest Buzz on Member Surveys. Traditional budgeting and forecasting methods can no longer keep pace with today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Static budgets, rigid annual forecasts, and outdated financial models limit an organization’s ability to adapt to market shifts and economic uncertainty. To stay ahead, finance leaders must leverage a future-forward approach—one that leverages real-time data, predictive analytics, and continuous planning to drive smarter financial decisions.
I read an interesting article today (see [link] ). It’s titled, “A Counter-Intuitive Approach to Making Complex Decisions” The article was mis-titled in my opinion though. The premise of the article is leaders should take a break (the sleep on it theory) prior to making difficult decisions and that this is counter-intuitive. Certainly many leaders want to make decisions quickly and move on.
A meeting I recently attended has participants introduce themselves by sharing a book that has influenced our thinking about leadership and organizations. Just one we all cried? It was a great question though, and I immediately jotted down six of the dozens of titles I might have used as my answer. Here are six of the books I find myself returning to and re-reading regularly (in alphabetical order).

This week I’m offline for an at-home retreat — lots of reading, thinking, setting goals, making a visionboard, planning, and writing for pleasure. I’m digging into Patti Digh’s Creative is a Verb , Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird , Rolf Gates’ Meditations from the Mat , Baron Baptiste’s 40 Days to Personal Revolution and a few other books, blogs and resources that have been wooing me.
What’s the one thing all leaders know but few leaders can implement? The fastest way to fail is to keep the wrong people on your team. Think about any team you’ve ever been on or seen (it could be an athletic team, could be a work team, or a volunteer committee). Think about all the ones that failed to accomplish their objective – what’s the one thing they all had in common?

That means I’m finally digging into Patti Digh’s Creative is a Verb and some writing books that have been wooing me. I’m starting the week with a massage on Monday. Isn’t that how all retreats start? Life and work may get in the way, and if so, I’ll roll with it.

Mistakes can lead to costly penalties and operational disruptions, making it essential to adopt advanced solutions that ensure accuracy and efficiency.
I recently read an article about how “high achievers” can overcome burnout. It assumed (and I happen to agree) that people who work at a fast pace and under significant stress (call them leaders) can sometimes tire from their work and if they don’t deal with the exhaustion properly, may become ineffective. A few of the author’s suggestions for overcoming burnout included: 1.
I recently suffered a very sudden and very significant loss of vision. Happily, the condition was fully correctible.
