The weekly list of free educational events and resources for the association community… What a week. This tweet summed it up for me. It feels somewhat like that week in March when the impact of COVID-19 hit us all. It’s been hard to focus. I find myself staring blankly at whatever I’m writing while my mind is far away. Out of respect for the ongoing uprisings protesting the murder of George Floyd and longstanding, unaddressed racism and racial discrimination in American society, I’ve requested that Association Insights postpone our scheduled Wednesday, June 3 webinar, Leading Engagement from the Outside In, to a later date. I don’t feel it is appropriate to host this session in the middle of yet another tragic moment in our shared history.
There’s a growing demand for data within associations to help inform decision-making during this time of uncertainty and change. While the COVID-19 crisis is affecting each business in different ways, one trend we have seen is that most associations are starting to move more towards online engagement.

Traditional budgeting and forecasting methods can no longer keep pace with today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Heather is Higher Logic’s Chief Community Officer. She was the first to hold the position at Higher Logic and one of the earliest to hold the title in the industry. I’ve been involved in community management for around 13 years. When I started, I didn’t even know it was a profession, and I was flying solo. I think a lot of us started that way in the early years.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that you can help your members!
Your website is on the job 24/7, and it’s a key player in your association. Your association website is often the first interaction someone has with your association , speaking to every person who visits you online. You have one chance to make a good first impression, so it’s important to get it right. Most of us are familiar with Inattention Blindness, failing to see something right in front of you (you’re not alone – it’s a real thing, and there’s a fantastic video that demonstrates the phenom

I am nearly six feet tall. Finding clothing has been challenging my whole life. That was until I learned of Long Tall Sally, a quality retailer devoted to tall women. Recently I got an email stating that they are closing after 44 years of business. After what sounds like years of somewhat shaky financials, COVID pushed them over the edge. Last week I heard the same story from an entrepreneur friend of mine who founded an international food franchise.
