Here are 10 real-life examples of organizations (both small and large) that held very successful membership drives, gaining anywhere from 5 to 200 new members, plus advice on how to set your goal, budget, strategy, and more.
As has been discussed at length, for a number of years – the viability of associations is under attack and the relevance of many associations is in question. Although that may be the headline, I believe the real issue at hand is the fact that many associations have yet to evolve with the Digital Age and adapt their value proposition. Allow me to draw a comparative line.
The request for proposal you send to learning management system (LMS) providers is only as good as the process you use to develop your LMS requirements. If you don’t accurately and completely identify and prioritize your real needs during that process, your new LMS will fall short of expectations. Before you even think about creating a request for proposal (RFP), you must spend time on the LMS requirements gathering and analysis process.

At the end of one of the phases of our culture consulting , we help clients create a “ Culture Playbook.” It’s basically a list of things they will do inside their organization to either change or protect specific aspects of their culture, in order to ensure ongoing success. The Culture Teams we are working with usually create an initial list of about 50 different plays, which cover a huge range of activities in terms of both level of effort and level of impact.
I don't know when was the last time I've written about performance evaluations on this blog -- or indeed if I have ever written about performance evaluations on this blog before -- but they've been on my mind this week. With the close of our fiscal year, we're entering performance evaluation season at my organization. I believe in regular feedback, and I'd like to think that my organization engages in it throughout the year, but we still have a once-a-year, formal sit-down conversation where an
For the last 17 years, Clark Aldrich has been pushing for education to break outside of both traditional media and strictly linear techniques. Early on, this meant advocating for the use of computer game simulations that could place users in an interactive environment. Computer games, however, carry the double stigma of associations with mindless entertainment and an adolescent audience.

On paper, your association has an organizational-type membership structure. But, that is not the way your members think about the membership. Your key contact member understands that some of their colleagues at their organization can be members. But, most often when they think about the value of the association, they are not thinking about the value to their colleagues, or even the value of the membership to their organization, they are thinking about the value of the membership for themselves.
Traditional budgeting and forecasting methods can no longer keep pace with today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Static budgets, rigid annual forecasts, and outdated financial models limit an organization’s ability to adapt to market shifts and economic uncertainty. Member to member mentoring is a great benefit for many members. Members benefit from a well-made match and from a thought out process where each side understands the ground rules and their obligations for making the relationship work. Often mentoring is seen as a match between long-time members and new members, or between past conference attendees and new conference attendees, or between those who have been in the field for years and those new to the profession.

Like many Americans you probably are excited for the upcoming Independence Day, more commonly referred to as July 4. These strategies form the key distinctions between people who are what I call “Membership Marketers” and those who are “Member Leaders.” Membership Marketers focus only on the hunt, acquiring new members.
