A few weeks ago, Hilary Marsh and I had the opportunity to sit down (virtually, of course) with fusionSPAN’s Justin Burniske to talk all things content curation. The conversation was based on Hilary’s and my recently released whitepaper, Cut Through the Clutter: Content Curation, Associations’ Secret Weapon Against Information Overload. Most publications attract a handful of true fans — readers who devour every post, share content on social media and open every newsletter. . But in the long run, understanding who doesn’t regularly read your content — and why — is far more valuable. If you can identify the disconnect between your content and your audience’s needs, you can begin to close the gap and increase engagement. .
Why would only a small fraction of registrants attend the live virtual conference? Because the incentive to be there is less than the pull of their daily lives. They know the meeting is going on, but their email or project or phone can’t be ignored. They know they can access the sessions later on, which further disincentives them to attend. When attendees assume the conference is a compilation of passively viewed webinar-like sessions, there’s little reason to participate live.
