In 2017, the AZA annual meeting was hosted by the Indianapolis Zoo, the location for Zoo Day. Here are four tips that helped AZA and the Indianapolis Zoo wow attendees: 1. People were asking strangers to take photos and videos of them eating the popcorn—and sharing the images on social media with the conference hashtag.

MPI’s World Education Congress (WEC) in June in Indianapolis was held entirely in a huge open-plan exhibit space at the Indiana Convention Center. Client commitments will preclude my participating this year, but I recently discovered a short CBS News video clip highlighting last year's conference. Every so often, on those rare days with extra time on my hands, I think about helping create such an event (one that is more affordable) right here in Indianapolis.

Seeing Indianapolis ready for its prime time appearance this week as host of Super Bowl XLVI is exciting to someone who has called downtown Indy home for more than 18 years. When driving to a speaking gig in Indianapolis, I was delayed by road construction, which I later learned was part of Super Bowl prep. Monday, January 30, 2012.

In reviewing photos from the recent Super Bowl Village here in Indianapolis, I was reminded of a very important one: people just want to be a part of the action. Indy spotlighted 46 faces and stories from our community in videos shared at a special website, XLVI Faces , and on banners displayed in the heart of Super Bowl Village.

Zetzl has seen organizations like the Big Ten and the Fire Department Instructors Conference do likewise in Indianapolis and have similar success. Another way to prompt attendees to tweet about a conference and share its hashtag is to display a feed of tweets that use the hashtag on a large video screen at the event.
