This is great advice but it is awfully hard to do when we don’t know our members’ why. For every action (or inaction) members (and non-members) take there is a why. As established organizations, knowing our member’s why helps us develop and communicate our why.
But according to the Community Brands 2022 Association Trends Study , only 39% of association professionals have one! While data analytics might be communicated as a high priority, the surveyed association professionals report their confidence in the state of their member data remains weak.
We suggest that you have a conversation and not send a survey. Communicate to leadership and staff in their language. When advocating for an investment in analytics, be sure to communicate in language that resonates with your audience. Ask, “Do you want better memberinsights to inform strategy?”
