An online Coursera course, Modern American Poetry , aka ModPo, is one of the 50 most popular MOOCs of all time. Typically, a MOOC features a course syllabus, in this case, a ten-week lesson plan with assigned reading (poems), instructor-created video content, discussion forum, peer-reviewed writing assignments, and quizzes.

MOOCs are online classes that are available to anyone with a computer and/or Internet access. Some MOOCs are free, but others aren’t. million people participate in MOOCs through Coursera.

In fact, I took my first graduate class as a lifelong learner because it was so much cheaper. Remember this as your association competes with cheap, easy-to-find educational resources a la the web. Associations should provide a platform to allow their members to share virtual resources. And others are lifelong learners.

I get it—limited resources, too many priorities, a sense of overwhelm and the old not making room for the new (you interpret that however you wish). When I went to college, a middle class kid could afford a four-year liberal arts education. You don’t have the resources? Depending on who’s talking, it can be a downer, frankly.
