Today marks one year since DC shut down for the pandemic. I wrote a Twitter thread to memorialize that fact, and realized I should probably have written a blog post, even though it’s not very association-y. So here it is. Every community association requires a set of governing documents—often a declaration of covenants, conditions, and restrictions, articles of incorporation or organization, and bylaws—to provide its legal framework and operation. Governing documents define the rights and obligations of the association and its members. They also establish standards that protect the community and promote harmonious living.
I used to serve on a nonprofit board whose mantra was “Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid” ( Basil King ). One of my personal mantras is “Live your life in draft.” (I’m not sure where I got that one.) .
